What is PEMF Therapy?

PEMF, or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy, is a powerful treatment approach created with the same technical understanding as that utilized in the imaging captured by an MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging. While medical professionals and researchers have focused primarily on pharmacological and surgical interventions in the US, European and Eastern scientists were not bound by the influences of a restricted medical model. Thus, for decades, research in Europe, Russia, and the East has explored the role of the body’s natural electrical magnetic fields (EMF), which vary depending on health and disease conditions.

Not only did they discover that various medical conditions correlate with changes in these electromagnetic fields, but they also discovered that DNA expression, tissue inflammation, and other aspects of the body’s functioning could be improved and often healed with the application of very refined pulsed electromagnetic signals.

Various forms of EMF therapies now have a solid foundation of clinical, laboratory, and theoretical evidence, with several having been shown to produce significant positive clinical results. Among the most successful therapeutic modalities are those employing time sequencing to pulse the electromagnetic field (i.e., PEMF).

The use of PEMF signals has several advantages over constant stimulation with EMF, including the ability to align with specific frequency and amplitude patterns in the body. In addition, the use of low-power cycles to target the healing of body tissues without producing tissue heating reduces inflammation. Finally, the pulsed signals can induce and mimic the electric field in the body and organs.

The therapeutic use of PEMFs is now well-established, with significant numbers of double-blind placebo-controlled studies and a growing number of modalities now approved by the US FDA and regulatory bodies worldwide for pathologies such as bone repair, pain reduction, inflammation lessening, and improvements in chronic illness.

At Capital District Neurofeedback, we utilize PEMF devices that uniquely couple with the body’s own energy. We take advantage of the power of ‘bio-feedback’ and a pulsed energy wave to first match the body’s EMF signaling, and then gently encourage better health with gradually enhanced pulsed signals.
